Independent Living FAQ
What is Independent Living?
Independent Living offers active and independent older adults an opportunity to enjoy their current lifestyles, without the burden of home maintenance. At Cypress Glen, that means a rewarding, worry-free lifestyle in maintenance-free cottages or apartment homes with a wide variety of services, amenities, and friends, right outside the door.
Can residents bring their own furniture?
Absolutely, your residence is yours to make your own. Residents bring along treasured furniture and belongings. Some seniors take advantage of the move to Independent Living to make a fresh start with all new pieces.
May residents bring cars?
Most people who drive do, but with all the transportation options available as part of our service, a car is not strictly necessary. Many couples who move together find they prefer to keep one car instead of two, but reserved parking spaces are provided for each resident vehicle.
What services are included in the monthly fee?
The monthly fee includes weekly housekeeping; preventive maintenance; basic utilities; cable; personal emergency pendant; transportation; resident’s choice of several meal plan options; and access to common areas, including the fitness center.
What does an entrance payment cover?
The entrance payment ensures access to higher levels of on-campus senior care. Any future health changes will be significantly less stressful, knowing that expert support is at their fingertips.
Assisted Living FAQ
What is Assisted Living?
Assisted Living provides a constructive combination of individualized care, familiar community surroundings, and lifestyle enhancements. Our residents are assured ongoing wellness evaluations and levels of Assisted Living services that address their specific needs. Licensed, compassionate team members assist with daily tasks as needed, and the many amenities available help residents enjoy what matters most to them.
How does an Assisted Living community differ from a nursing home?
Nursing homes offer a more extensive level of medical care, usually for frail seniors with numerous health care requirements. Assisted Living communities — or Assisted Living within a Life Plan/Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) — are intended for people who are generally able to care for themselves except for a few activities with which they require help — for example, preparing meals, dressing, bathing, or performing household chores. Assisted Living services are also helpful for people who are sometimes confused or experiencing sporadic memory challenges.
How does someone know when a senior requires Assisted Living services?
We recommend starting with a physician’s assessment. When help with daily tasks is needed — taking medicines, bathing, dressing, meals, transportation, and housekeeping — Assisted Living can be the answer. Trained professionals provide support while helping preserve an individual’s independence.
Are the residences furnished?
Residences within levels of care come furnished with a bed, dresser, nightstand, and chair, but residents have the freedom to furnish and decorate their residences with personal touches. Bring beloved furniture and belongings, or make a fresh start with new pieces that make everyday living even more comfortable.
Do you offer activities?
Yes. Each day is filled with opportunities to create new friendships through activities, socials, and entertainment, as well as access to life-enriching services and amenities around the community.
What if a resident needs more support than what is provided in Assisted Living?
At Cypress Glen, we offer a continuum of care. Unlike Assisted Living communities that only provide one level of care, Cypress Glen offers Assisted Living services, as well as Memory Support and Skilled Nursing. These programs provide 24/7 care for residents recovering from illness or injury, or those needing more long-term supervision for a chronic condition.
Skilled Nursing FAQ
What is Skilled Nursing?
Skilled Nursing is for seniors with medical needs requiring round-the-clock access to licensed Nurses and Therapists. Skilled Nursing is appropriate for people recovering from illness, injury, surgery, or stroke who need intensive therapy and care to gain optimal well-being and health.
Memory Care FAQ
What is Memory Care?
Memory Care offers specialized support for those with dementia and other forms of memory impairment. Each member of Ella Green Weyer professional team understands the importance of respect and personal dignity. They work with loved ones and health care specialists to ensure the wellbeing, comfort, and care of every resident. Memory Care services offer supportive health and personal care 24 hours a day within a specially designed residential setting.
Are the associates specific to the Memory Care Cottage?
Yes. Team members are specially trained in person-centered Memory Care. And these caregivers combine expertise with a compassionate temperament and a dedication to providing respectful Memory Care to seniors and their families.
What if a resident requires Memory Care as well as other support?
Unlike a stereotypical Memory Care facility, Ella Green Weyer offers Memory Care services in addition to Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. If a senior’s needs change, we are equipped to seamlessly enhance the level of care.
Rehabilitation FAQ
Is occupational therapy the same as physical therapy?
The two therapies are similar in that they both help restore strength and mobility. However, occupational therapy focuses on helping people improve their ability to perform everyday tasks by modifying their physical environment and using adaptive equipment and techniques to increase independence.
What can a senior expect from speech therapy?
Skilled speech and language pathologists address communication challenges and swallowing issues. Treatment plans are designed to rebuild language abilities, provide alternate communication strategies, and give diet recommendations.
How often will residents receive therapy services?
Each person receives an individualized treatment plan, based on medical certification by their doctor, to address their condition and specific rehabilitation needs. Cypress Glen will provide the appropriate senior Rehabilitation services as recommended by your therapy team after admission.
Who will be involved in the rehabilitative care?
At our senior Rehabilitation Center, a team of specialists, including a doctor, nurse, social worker, dietitian, and therapists, will provide care, guide your Rehabilitation journey, and work in partnership with you and your family members.
Does a senior need to be a Cypress Glen resident?
Yes. Current residents enjoy exclusive access to senior Rehabilitation services at Cypress Glen.
